Obsessive compulsive disorder

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterised by the presence of obsessions and/or compulsions. Obsessions are persistent and uncontrollable thoughts, images, or impulses that intrude on a person's mind and cause significant anxiety and distress. Compulsions, on the other hand, are repetitive and ritualistic behaviours or mental acts that a person feels compelled to perform in order to neutralise the anxiety caused by the obsessions. Approximately 70% of people with OCD experience both obsessions and compulsions. However, 20% experience just obsessions, and 10% experience just compulsions. OCD can be a debilitating condition that can significantly impact a person's daily life, affecting their ability to work, study, and socialise. It can also lead to feelings of shame and embarrassment, causing sufferers to hide their symptoms from others.
